What is Dream Rider?

The first question for this blog, what is Dream Rider exactly?

Dream Rider is a game being developed using the Game Maker creation tool originally created by Mark Overmars specifically for game development.

Dream Rider is what is know as a 2D Vertical "SHMUP" (Shoot em' Up) similar to other popular games such as Ikaruga, Radiant Silvergun, and even the Touhou Project games (Perfect Cherry Blossom, Mountain of Faith, Shoot the Bullet).

The genre focuses on the player going through enemy waves, defeating them as they come, while avoiding getting hit by these enemies and their bullets. The path is linear and the same every time, allowing the player to learn the pattern of the game and eventually able to master it.

Dream Rider will be very similar to many other "SHMUP"s in this way, while having it's own new ideas featuring a very "different" powerup system and scoring system. Look forward to more posts about the game!
